Anxiety about COVID 19

COVID 19! This tiny invisible virus is making a buzz all over the world and has shaken the medical field. There is an uncertainty that has covered as to what to do and how to face the situation of the outbreak of the virus.

Anxiety is a normal reaction to uncertainty and things that may harm us. For many of us, the COVID 19 illness make for a very uncertain future. People worry about their own health and the health of their beloved ones. People may also have a lot of concerns around school or work, their finances, their ability to take part in important community and social; events and hobbies. People who already experienced a lot of anxiety may find their anxiety worsening.

It is important to be kind to yourself. This is an anxious and stressful moment for everyone, and it is ok if you feel more anxious than usual, and it is ok to take time for yourself to manage your mental health. You are doing the best you can in a time when simply turning on the news channels can make you feel overwhelming.

While anxiety is a normal and expected reaction to a pandemic, too much anxiety can start to cause harm to your mental health. When anxiety and fear lead to panic, people may also take precautions that ultimately cause disruptions, like demanding a lot of tests or medical care when it isn’t required.

To overcome this anxiety first let us understand what CDC has suggested to the public regarding managing the anxiety and stress related to COVID 19. Here has what CDC has come up with.

  • Stop getting over-influenced to media coverage.
  • Do all things possible to keep yourself calm and composed like a short walk, meditation, deep breathing, etc.
  • Set apart a chunk of time to relieve the stress in your body.
  • Socialize with family, neighbors, and friends through calls, texts or the internet.

 

After getting to know how to keep yourself away from anxiety and stress, now it is time to give some relief to young minds. So here is a list of things that we can do to keep the young generations away from stress.

  • Tell them and assure that they are safe and make them feel strong mentally that nothing is going to happen.
  • Tell them that they can inform you anything whenever they feel upset.
  • Show them how you are able to cope with the same stress and anxiety so that they can follow you and feel relieved from stress.
  • Restrict their exposure to media and social media sites.

It is more important to talk about anxiety and it’s important to focus on our health right now. So many people are struggling with fear and uncertainty.
